CIRCULATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

HOW MANY BOOKS CAN YOU CHECK OUT?

Kindergarten - 1 item
Grades 1-6    - 2 items

Students in any grade may ask the Library Staff for additional numbers of titles for research or special projects. Reference materials stay in the Library Media Center only.

HOW LONG CAN YOU HAVE THE BOOKS?

Grades K-6 have a 2 week loan period. Books are stamped with their date due on the pocket in the front or back of the book.

WHAT ABOUT PARENTS? CAN THEY BORROW BOOKS?

Parents can checkout books on their child's card / account. Parents may checkout up to 2 items on a two-week loan.

OVERDUE BOOKS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES. WHAT DOES OVERDUE MEAN?

Overdue means your book is late being returned to the library. Your library materials need to be returned two weeks from the date of check out. If you want to return /exchange books before your library day, you may do so. Please renew any titles that you are not finished with to avoid overdue slips. Please bring the book(s) into the library to renew. We will renew it a maximum of two times.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A BOOK IS OVERDUE?

Each student is responsible for items which appear on his/her library account. Students with overdue items may not checkout new items until overdue items have been returned. Students with overdue items who need materials for in-school assignments may borrow a book for one day with teacher approval. There is no late fee for overdue items. Items that are overdue for more than two months will be considered "Lost" and a notice of replacement fees will be sent. Lost book notices are given to students to take home. If a response is not received within one week of the notice being given to a student, the same notice along with a letter of explanation will be sent to the students home.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT BOOKS ARE OVERDUE?

Overdue notices will be sent to students and staff periodically.

LOST OR DAMAGED ITEMS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES. WHAT DO I DO IF I LOST A BOOK?

In order to maintain the library collection, if a book is thought to be lost, patrons are responsible for providing the funds to replace the item. Come to the library and let us know that you have lost a book. We will tell you how much it will cost to replace the book. Bring in the replacement fees either in cash or a check made out to Northwood Elementary School. Each student is responsible for items which appear on his/her library account.

WHAT IF I FIND THE BOOK AFTER I'VE PAID FOR IT?

If a replacement fee is paid and the item is found within the same school year, a full refund will be provided. Items found after one school year will not receive a refund, as the replacement fee has been spent on a replacement title.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A BOOK IS DAMAGED?

In order to maintain the library collection, if an item is damaged the borrower is responsible for replacement costs. Students will be presented with a copy of the damaged item's record highlighting the replacement cost. If the replacement fee is not received within one month, the librarian will contact parent/guardian by mail, phone or email and a copy of the item record along with a note requesting the fee to be sent. If any lost or damaged books not paid for within the school year, Library Staff will contact you to make special arrangements regarding the specific situation.
