During the 2009 - 2010 school year, once again all of the elementary students in grades 3 through 6 will again be traveling to the Aquatic Center at Merton Williams to participate in an Aquatics Unit. The dates for the elementary schools and students will be as follows: 


Northwood:

Grades 3 and 4: September 14th, 2009 through October 2nd, 2009

Grades 5 and 6: October 5th, 2009 through October 22nd, 2009 



Quest:

Grades 3 through 6: May 10th, 2010 through May 28th, 2010 



Village:

Mrs. Stadtmiller's Classes and Mr. Simboli's 3rd Grade Classes: October 26th, 2009 through November 13th, 2009

Mrs. Ingles' Classes and Mrs. Bellnier's 3rd Grade Classes: April 12th, 2010 through May 7th, 2010


The focus of grades 3 & 4 will continue to be on safety, water adjustment and water skills while the focus of grades 5 & 6 will be on safety and introduction to the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program. 


All students will need to bring the following for participation:

 

1.  Swimsuit: Boys – suit with drawstring

  Girls – one piece suits only

Ø   no cut-off jeans allowed

Ø   no jewelry allowed except post earrings

Ø   Goggles are allowed, but masks or nose plugs will not be allowed to be used during instructional time

2. Towel

3. Bag to transport wet items


All classes will be taught by a certified Water Safety Instructor along with the regular Physical Education Teacher(s).  All students will be transported to the pool by bus.


Like last year, the Aquatics Unit will finish off the school year with an Elementary Swimming and Diving Meet.  This year, 40 students from the 5th and 6th grade classes at each school will be bused to the Aquatic Center to take part in this exciting event.  The event this year will be held on Friday, June 4th, 2010.  The meet will start at 9:15 and will last about 1 hour.
