The ELA 8 exam will take place during the 3rd week of January - January 16th and 17th. Your child's results on this exam are important and could determine future placement in AIS when your child gets to the high school. Please make sure your child gets a good night's rest the evenings prior to the exam. They should also have a good breakfast that includes Orange juice! I will do some test preparation with students in the month of January prior to the exam. This is a skill based exam that will test your child on reading and listening comprehension of text. It will also test them on their abiltity to write about the text they read. This will incude correct usage of grammar and punctuation.There is nothing specific for them to study. They should review the skills for paragraph and essay writing as well as the reading strategies we have used and developed over the last year and a half. The link below will bring you to the NYS exam web page. You can click on the different sample tests, familiarize yourself with them and have your child practice by taking them. There should also be answers sheets provided on this page.
